Hoosier Hoops History: A Career High Night for Yogi on 12/9/2015
8 years ago on this date (December 9th, 2015), Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell dropped a career high 38 points on the IPFW Mastodons in front of the Hoosier faithful. One of the greatest point guards ever to grace the hardwood for the Hoosiers, it was a brilliant evening nestled within an overall brilliant career for Yogi. The senior led the team to a comfortable 90-65 victory in Bloomington, dishing out 5 dimes while hitting 12 of his 18 shots from the field plus 4 of his 8 three point attempts on the evening. He also earned ten freebies at the line, converting on all of them. Yogi was simply too much for the Mastodons to handle.
Ferrell turned in a masterpiece performance, but he did not have to do it all. Swingman Troy Williams, another memorable name from recent history, also put up some career high numbers on the night. Troy was an animal on the interior, grabbing a personal best 19 rebounds. On top of that, he was everywhere on defense as evidenced by his 5 rejections. His versatility was incredible for Tom Crean’s Hoosiers.
James Blackmon Jr, the second leading scorer for the Hoosiers in 2015-2016, had an off night as he finished with a measly 4 points. Luckily, Robert Johnson was able to pick up the slack. He knocked down all 5 of his three point attempts, chipping in with 16 points in 22 minutes. RoJo was consistently vital to the team that entire season.
While multiple Hoosiers contributed, it was Yogi who stole the show. He was in complete control of the contest from buzzer to buzzer. It was a mega memory for the senior star
