These are five keys for Indiana basketball to return to the NCAA Tournament.

Indiana University is one of the most recognized brands in college basketball. From the time the legendary Bobby Knight took over in 1971 until now, the Hoosiers have been a fixture in the NCAA Tournament, winning four National Titles. There hasn’t been much stability as head coach since Knight left the program after the 1999-2000 basketball season. Head coach Mike Woodson is the fifth head coach at IU since 2001.

Many coaches have had some success in Bloomington, including longtime Knight assistant Mike Davis, who reached the title game in 2001-02. There’s been a lot of turnover at head coach since Knight left the program after the 1999-2000 season, with five different head coaches in those 24 years. Though some have had success, including longtime assistant Mike Davis making a National Championship game appearance in 2001-2002, no one has matched Knight’s success.

Head coach Mike Woodson, who also played at Indiana, led the Hoosiers to back-to-back tournament appearances for the first time in nearly a decade. The former star guard has improved the team’s overall talent using the transfer portal and high school recruiting. Though he spent most of his coaching career in the NBA, Woodson understands the importance of talent acquisition to the college game. He has the Hoosiers going in the right direction. Can he lead them back to March Madness? Here are five keys for the Hoosiers to return to the postseason.
