No. 5 best Indiana basketball NBA career: Dick Van Arsdale

  • Drafted: 1965 No. 13 overall (second round)
  • NBA games played: 921
  • NBA PPG: 16.4

Dick was selected one spot ahead of his brother in the 1965 NBA draft. Dick went to the New York Knicks and also earned a spot on the 1966 All-Rookie team. After three years in New York, Dick went to Phonix where he really thrived.

Dick’s first year in Phoneix, as a 25-year old in the 1968-69 season, he averaged over 20 points a game for the first time and was an All-Star. He made the All-Star team the next two seasons as well while averaging over 20 points in each year.

Where Dick differentiated himself from his brother was the other side of the floor. Dick was named to the NBA All-Defensive team in 1973-74.
