Indiana basketball vs. Xavier: Six takeaways from Hoosiers 81-79 win
#5. If Miller Kopp doesn’t start hitting shots consistently, CJ Gunn needs to get playing time
On Friday night, Miller Kopp logged 28 minutes of game action and recorded seven points on 2-for-8 shooting and 1-for-4 from three, along with two turnovers and one steal. Arguably, Kopp hit the biggest shot of the night with just over two minutes remaining to give Indiana an 8-point lead.
Yes, Kopp made a big-time three-pointer when it mattered most, but aside from that three-pointer, his only true impact on the game came defensively, trying to limit Adam Kunkel and Colby Jones.
While I wasn’t the most impressed by Kopp in this game, he will continue to see significant minutes as long as he’s anchoring the defense alongside Race Thompson and Trayce Jackson-Davis. If he doesn’t start hitting his three-point opportunities more consistently, CJ Gunn or Jordan Geronimo needs to take over the minutes that he’s getting.
