Indiana basketball vs. Miami (OH): Three Redhawks to analyze for Sunday
No. 12 Indiana basketball travels to Indianapolis to face off with the Miami Ohio Redhawks on Sunday, just one day after their first road win of the season.
The Hoosiers have started the 2022-23 season 3-0 after a dominant 30-point performance by Trayce Jackson-Davis and support from a 23-point night from Xavier Johnson against Xavier.
Luckily for Indiana’s defense, they were able to limit Jack Nunge, Zach Freemantle, and Colby Jones just enough to pull out a very tough road victory in an offensive battle. Nunge and Freemantle combined for 29 points and 14 rebounds on 12-for-25 (48.0 percent) shooting.
Here are three Miami (OH) players that the Hoosiers need to analyze prior to Sunday’s matchup in Indianapolis to pull out a neutral site win:
Three Redhawks to analyze for No. 12 Indiana basketball
3. Billy Smith – Freshman Guard – #11
2022-23 stats: 4 GP, 31.0 MIN, 9.8 PPG, 6.3 REB, 2.0 STL, 2.0 3PM, 36.4 3P%
Thus far this season, the freshman guard from Indianapolis has attempted a team-high 22 three-pointers and made a team-high eight of those (36.4 percent). Smith has attempted at least four three-pointers in each game this season.
In the Redhawks’ only win this season, Smith played 29 minutes and recorded 11 points, three made three-pointers, 12 rebounds, four assists, and six steals against Goshen College.
Smith was not a hugely touted freshman with high rankings coming out of Brebeuf Jesuit High School in Indianapolis but received offers from plenty of lower-level Division I schools like Miami (OH), Bellarmine, and Eastern Illinois before committing. He is making an impact as a freshman early on and is worth noting to limit on Sunday afternoon.
