Regular Season predictions

The Hoosiers will finish the regular season with two wins at Assembly Hall against Iowa and Michigan but will fall short of the regular season Big Ten title by one game to Michigan. Another stretch of games in the late regular season ruin Indiana’s chances at a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, losing four in a five-game stretch in February.

During the regular season, Trayce Jackson-Davis will lead the Hoosiers averaging 19.7 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks, and finishes as the Big Ten Player of the Year. But the real X-factor for Indiana was Jalen Hood-Schifino. The freshman guard finishes on the All-Big Ten second team and wins Big Ten Freshman of the Year, along with making a case for the National Freshman of the Year.

Postseason predictions

After finishing the regular season second in the Big Ten behind Michigan, the Hoosiers, as a two-seed in the 2023 Big Ten Tournament, march through teams and win the Big Ten Championship to solidify themselves as a 3-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

As a 3-seed, Indiana basketball takes on a sub-par 14-seeded team, then takes on the challenge of either a 6 or 11-seeded team that is poised for an upset. The Hoosiers take them down and face a tough matchup in the Sweet 16. Let’s hope they’d come out with a win and secure their first Elite Eight appearance since 2001-02.

Though it will be tough for the Hoosiers to even get as far as the Elite Eight, don’t be surprised to see this experienced and deep team make a run at the Final Four and maybe even beyond. An overall impressive season under Mike Woodson and things are looking up again for the Indiana basketball program in the future.
