With 11 days until the Hoosiers tip off the 2022-23 season, we are now at the 11th player on our Indiana basketball roster player previews, and next on the list is freshman guard, CJ Gunn.

CJ Gunn | 6’6″ 194lbs | Freshman Guard

Gunn is a pretty impressive freshman guard coming into Bloomington this season, even though he was ranked just 174th in the 2022 class by 247Sports, he ranked as the 24th-best shooting guard and sixth-best player from the state of Indiana. Gunn has the scoring ability to hang with guys in the Big Ten, it’s just a matter of him getting his shot and getting enough playing time.

Prior to coming to Indiana, Gunn was a star standout for Lawrence North High School in Indiana. In his senior season, Gunn was a member of the Indiana All-Star team, and he averaged 23.5 points, 1.5 steals and shot 37.4 percent from beyond the arc on his way to an IBCA Supreme 15 All-State selection. One of his best games for Lawrence North was where the 6-foot-6 guard poured in 33 points and a school-record nine three-pointers against Fort Wayne Snider.

With incoming freshmen, Jalen Hood-Schifino, and sophomore Tamar Bates, CJ Gunn sits behind two of the more talented guards on our roster coming into this 2022-23 season. One thing is for sure is that if Indiana basketball continues to struggle shooting from deep this season, Gunn will get his opportunity as a guy that can score the ball, similar to Devonte Green.

Projected 2022-23 stats: 26 GP, 0 GS, 83 total points, 3.1 PPG, 20 3PM, 38.5 3P%
