Top 20 Indiana basketball players of all-time
Indiana basketball career stats: 10.6 PPG, 4.3 AST, 1.2 STL, 1.7 3PM, 36.0 3P%, 115 GP
As a junior in 2001-02, Tom Coverdale ranked second on the Hoosiers in scoring (11.9 PPG) and three-pointers made (70), and was first on the team in assists (4.8 APG) and steals (57).
If not for Coverdale, Jared Jeffries, and Indiana basketball would not have made the run they did in the magical 2002 NCAA Tournament. Coverdale averaged 9.5 points, 4.8 assists, and shot 41.7 percent from beyond the arc in the six tournament games.
You may look at the career stats and not believe that this guy deserves to be in the top 20. Understand that Coverdale was the ultimate glue guy before glue guys were even recognized. Coverdale ranks in the top 10 in the following statistical categories for his single-season and career numbers in Bloomington:
- Three-pointers made: 200 (6th)
- Three-point attempts: 555 (5th)
- Assists: 500 (4th)
- Steals: 137 (6th)
- Assists per game: 4.3 (4th)
- Three-point attempts (single season): 215 in 2002-03 (tied for 2nd)

Though he didn’t end up playing any games in the NBA, Coverdale had his glory days in Bloomington and made quite the impact in his four seasons under Bob Knight and Mike Davis.
