Though Tanner Morgan didn’t go down until the fourth quarter, this Minnesota team needs him to be able to perform alongside Mohamed Ibrahim in order for this team to thrive. Morgan had just four completions for 21 yards passing in three quarters against this stout Illinois defense, but did have six rushes for 23 yards and a touchdown run. Ibrahim did his job with 15 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown, but that wasn’t enough to compete with this impressive Illini team.

Looking ahead to Week 8, the Gophers will now take on #16 Penn State on the road and hope that they can rely on the legs of Ibrahim to carry them to a victory. Without Morgan this weekend, Athan Kaliakmanis will be thrown into the fire to make plays against a top team in the country. Minnesota is just 1-5 (.167) against Penn State when they are unranked and the Nittany Lions are in the top 25.
