The Hoosiers trailed nearly the entire game to Cincinnati, and despite falling down four touchdowns at the end of the first half, many Indiana football players were key in putting some pressure on the Bearcats.

It was tough to even find three players that played a key role in the game against Cincinnati on Saturday. But considering the outcome and final statistics, there were key players on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, especially in the second half, where the Hoosiers allowed just seven points after giving up 38 in the first half.

Overall presence and ability to make plays showed that Cam Jones and Aaron Casey could have been included in the key players for this game. Jones finished the game with the second-most tackles in the game (11), but really didn’t show much impact until the second half, and still his presence wasn’t really felt from my point of view. Casey showed up a bit more and finished with the second-most tackles (10) on the Hoosiers, including six solo tackles.

Week 4 stats: 3 total tackles, 1.0 sack, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1 QB hurry

One of the few shining players on the defensive side of the ball for the whole game, Alfred Bryant, goes by Lance Bryant, made his presence known with a sack and being involved in multiple tackles for loss. The fifth year senior was making Ben Bryant feel him in the backfield, despite Ben Bryant having an incredible first half; he struggled to get going in the second half due to the pressure from Alfred Bryant and the IU defense.

The lack of playmaking from other Indiana football players on the defensive side of the ball really gave the IU offense no chance to stay in this game, even though the first half was a lackluster performance by them as well. The emergence of Alfred Bryant as a guy that can pressure quarterbacks and get in the backfield will help the Hoosiers tremendously as we enter Big Ten play.
