GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA – JANUARY 05: Colin Castleton #12 of the Florida Gators reacts during the second half of a game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on January 05, 2022 in Gainesville, Florida. (Photo by James Gilbert/Getty Images) /

9. team. 526. . . . Gators

Colin Castleton, 6’11” 240lbs, Grad Senior Center
2021-22 Stats: 16.2 pts/g, 9.0 reb/g, 2.2 blk/g, 28.8 PER

Alex Fudge, 6’9″ 194lbs, Sophomore Forward
2021-22 Stats: 3.3 pts/g, 3.2 reb/g, 0.8 stl/g, 13.4 PER

Colin Castleton is entering his third season as the starting big man for the Gators after leading Florida in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. Castleton notched 10 double doubles last season, and five games with 10+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 2+ blocks, which is the most such games by a Gator in a single season since Patric Young had six such games in 2012-13.

One question mark about the Gators’ frontcourt is Alex Fudge, who started in just one game last season and scored in double digits just three times total in 29 games played. Though he did have a game with six steals and another game with four blocks, Fudge’s offensive impact will be limited with Castleton dominating the ball in the post.

Comparing to the Indiana basketball frontcourt

Offensively, I do give the advantage to Castleton over TJD, just due to the actual threat of being able to make a mid-range jump shot. But, that does not give the Gators’ frontcourt a higher ranking because the combination of TJD and Race Thompson out-duels Castleton and Fudge nine times out of ten, and any college hoops fan would be questioned if they were to think otherwise.
