Indiana basketball: Ranking the top 15 team frontcourts for 2022-23
Ernest Udeh Jr., 6’10” 220lbs, Freshman Center
2022 5-star prospect: #32 ranked nationally, #7 ranked C
Jalen Wilson, 6’8″ 215lbs, Junior Forward
2021-22 Stats: 11.1 pts/g, 7.4 reb/g, 18.4 PER
Gradey Dick, 6’7″ 195lbs, Freshman Forward
2022 5-star prospect: #20 ranked nationally, #8 ranked SF
The Jayhawks lose Ochai Agbaji, 2022 Final Four Most Outstanding Player, and David McCormack from their frontcourt, but will still sit atop college basketball as one of the best college basketball frontcourts in the nation with new-coming freshman Ernest Udeh Jr. and Gradey Dick, and with the return of Jalen Wilson, who will now be more of the focus of the offense as he tries to improve his draft stock for 2023.
The addition of 5-star forward Gradey Dick is what gives Bill Self’s group this high of a ranking, as I believe that he is the best shooter in this incoming recruiting class and is looking to replace the huge contributions of Christian Braun last season.
Comparing to the Indiana basketball frontcourt
Experience tends to prevail over youth in most instances, especially when looking at frontcourt players in college basketball, and that’s exactly how it would go with the Hoosiers’ frontcourt against the Jayhawks’ frontcourt. Though Gradey Dick is a better three-man/forward than Miller Kopp, the talent on both sides of the ball for TJD and Race Thompson would outplay Udeh Jr. and Wilson.
