Indiana basketball recruiting: 2023 Four-star prospect visits Bloomington
Jamie Kaiser Jr., a 6-foot-6, 200-pound four-star prospect from Virginia, traveled to Bloomington for his official visit with Mike Woodson and Indiana basketball. Kaiser Jr. will be attending IMG Academy for his senior season as he continues to search for his best fit college program and has now totaled 39 offers from Division I schools.
The senior guard led Bishop Ireton High School in scoring, averaging 20.7 points and 7.1 rebounds in his junior season. As seen in his junior season highlight tape, Kaiser Jr. is an elite scorer and has plenty of shot-making abilities that will benefit any college team he joins. While the high school basketball scene in Virginia is strong, the competition between teammates at IMG Academy and the coaching staff alone will only improve his stock.
One thing that’s quite impressive about Kaiser Jr.’s game as a junior last season is the quickness of his shot and ability to extend his range. While highlight tapes are typically misleading at times, there are always little details that college coaches look for when recruiting elite talent, and Kaiser Jr. seems to fit the bill as a prospect that will make a huge impact on a power conference team.
Jamie’s father, Jamie Kaiser Sr. spoke to Inside the Hall about the No. 101 ranked prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and their official visit on Thursday in Bloomington. Overall, it seemed that the Kaiser family was impressed with the presentation and opportunity to play for Mike Woodson and Indiana basketball at Assembly Hall.
"“For Jamie, speaking for him and myself, the opportunity to play was presented, but also the style of play. And so all of these things you’re talking about are ancillary. But the number one thing is first a student-athlete is: academically do they have what you desire to study? Secondly, am I going to be able to contribute when I’m on campus? And style of play matters… There are two coaches that really stood out for me. Obviously, Coach Woodson and (Brian) Walsh. Having Woodson’s NBA knowledge of how to get these young men ready for the NBA and what they’re looking for, from whether it’s scout evaluation, general manager, what-not. And just Walsh’s ability to connect with these players.”"
The four-star prospect included Indiana, Virginia, Miami (FL), Boston College, Iowa, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Maryland, Wisconsin, and UCLA in his top 10 schools. With all 10 schools from power conferences, Kaiser Jr. ending up in Bloomington next season may be a stretch. But there is a connection between IMG Academy and Indiana basketball with Tamar Bates (sophomore guard), which adds a bit of excitement to the decision as we keep an eye on his upcoming visits and commitment coming soon.
Let’s hope for a good shooting guard (that actually has the ability to shoot) to come join the Indiana basketball program in 2023-24.
