Indiana football: Five takeaways from the Hoosiers at Big Ten Media Days
#3. Donaven McCulley’s athletic abilities and frame will allow him to make an impact on the offensive side and special teams, even without being the starting QB.
Donaven McCulley made the move from quarterback to wide receiver this offseason, which was made official on July 15. McCulley appeared in seven games as a freshman last season as the Hoosiers’ QB, which was an ever-changing position battle last season. With incoming transfer, Connor Bazelak, and junior quarterback Jack Tuttle battling it out for the starting QB job, McCulley seems to be in line to make an impact on the offensive side and special teams, as well as his athleticism still stands out to the coaching staff.
Coach Tom Allen’s positivity regarding McCulley and his approach as a young football player who just wants the opportunity to make an impact on the field shows the confidence that he has in McCulley and his abilities moving forward.
"“I will say that he came to me. He wanted to do this. We had a great talk together about that. He’s a highly competitive young man and one of the best athletes on our football team, and he wants to be on the field. He wants to be playing. He wants to be involved in special teams and have those opportunities.”"
