Indiana Football: Preview, Key Storylines, and Prediction vs. Rutgers
A 1-0 Indiana Football squad travels to Rutgers to play the Scarlet Knights.
Game one of Indiana’s regular-season gave us enough fireworks seemingly for an entire year. You’d be hard-pressed to find a sports fiction novel with a more dramatic ending than the Hoosiers’ finish against Penn State.
Michael Penix Jr‘s clutch acrobatics has his team at 1-0 and oozing with the confidence of a program on the brink of a breakout.
Rutgers, meanwhile, is also 1-0 after defeating Michigan State in week one. Coach Greg Schiano is back after a nine-year tour at different schools across the country and already has his team playing better than they did last season under Chris Ash. Their roster isn’t filled with talent, but the last time Schiano was at the helm for Rutgers he turned them into a very formidable team. We may be seeing a repeat scenario in 2020.
Rutgers’ week one victory came mainly in part to their ability to force turnovers. Michigan State coughed up five fumbles and threw two interceptions in just that one game. This stat is not as glamorous for Rutgers as it may seem on paper. Michigan State’s carelessness was the mainreason for all the fumbles and picks, not Rutgers’ adept turnover-forcing ability. Still, it will be important for the Hoosiers to protect the ball against a very confident defense.
