Jordan Geronimo has been blessed athletically .

There’s good reason for the hype. Geronimo stands at 6-6 with a 7’1 wingspan. For reference, Michael Jordan was 6-6 with a  6’11 wingspan. His unbelievable measurements bode well for him in the future as he has the length to make NBA scouts giddy. On the court, Geronimo’s freak athleticism will make Assembly Hall shake with fervor (one day).

His giant wingspan allows Geronimo to be a force on the defensive end getting into passing lanes and blocking shots. There is good reason to believe Geronimo will be an instant impact player on the defensive end as he averaged two blocks and steals in one of the most competitive high school conferences in the country. He has also stated that he prides himself on hard work on the defensive end.

On the offensive end, Geronimo is just as scary. He’s a comfortable spot-up shooter but Geronimo thrives taking the ball to the basket with his fierce athleticism. He’s comfortable driving to the rim and finishing himself or dunking home a nasty alley-oop.

Not only does Geronimo have the skills and abilities to make the league, he’s also got the intangibles. Geronimo is a really smart kid, finishing high school with a 3.98 GPA. He was also involved with St. Paul’s Student Cultural Alliance, an organization that helps minorities succeed at St. Paul’s. If you listen to Geronimo talk, whether that be on the HoosierHysterics Podcast or in an interview for an article, it is clear that he is an exceptionally bright young guy who sees himself as more than a basketball player.

As Geronimo develops at Indiana, the two things that will be crucial for his success at the next level will be the progression of his shooting, both mid-range and threes, and his ability to take defenders off the dribble.

To be a pro at the wing position in the NBA, you have to be able to bury your shots. Geronimo has shown that he is capable of that as he shot 47% from the field in his senior year. But he will obviously need to improve to go to the next level.

The other attribute that Jordan Geronimo must develop to make it in the NBA is his ball-handling and dribbling. NBA wings must be able to take defenders off the dribble in order to find a lane to the basket or make an outlet pass. Geronimo has struggled with this in High School and it’s something I hope to see improve over Geronimo’s IU career.

Geronimo certainly has the ability to improve these aspects of his game. And he will.

When Geronimo combines his tantalizing athleticism with his impressive skill set on the NCAA stage, it will be a sight to behold. My prediction is that Jordan Geronimo spends two years at Indiana perfecting his craft before heading off to be taken in the first round of the NBA draft.

Geronimo certainly has the pieces to make it to the NBA one day. It’s up to him to put them all together.
