Michigan @ Indiana

They haven’t achieved the standards fans have hoped for under Jim Harbaugh, but Michigan remains a difficult matchup for teams just outside the top tier of the Big Ten like Indiana. Their defense is always talented, putting out several first and second-round NFL draft picks nearly every season.

It always seems Michigan doesn’t have quite enough to beat many of the elite teams in the conference, but they have more than enough to take care of business against non-elite teams. Their running back duo of Zach Charbonnet and Hassan Haskins combined for over 1300 rushing yards and scored 14 touchdowns.

Something that could give the Hoosiers an advantage in this game is the Wolverines’ quarterback situation. Former backup Dylan McCaffery was set to be the starter but chose to opt-out of the 2020 season, leaving gunslinger Joe Milton as the choice.

Milton is talented and there is a lot of buzz surrounding him from the Michigan faithful. However, he has only thrown 12 passes in his two-year college career. He’ll have two games under his belt by the time he plays IU, but inexperience could still be an issue.

This will likely be an extremely tough, competitive game that will require heady play and minimal mistakes to pull out a victory. Ultimately, it will be hard for the Hoosiers to beat both Penn State and Michigan in the first three weeks of the season.

Prediction: Michigan 35, Indiana 17
