It was a busy week of recruiting for Indiana Basketball

The Indiana coaching staff was busy on the recruiting trail this past week, making several scholarship offers to high school recruits. Indiana also landed in one recruit’s top nine schools. Here’s a quick roundup of all the news from the past seven days.

Bryce Hopkins narrows his list

Former Louisville commit Bryce Hopkins is back on the market, and Archie Miller has prioritized the 2021 forward since his decision to open his recruitment once more. It may not be Earth-shattering news, but Hopkins declared his top-nine schools and the Hoosiers have made the cut. Miller will have plenty of competition for Hopkins, with big names Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, and Oregon on the list as well.

Indiana offers Hunter Sallis

On Friday, August 28th, the Hoosiers offered a scholarship to five-star point guard Hunter Sallis. Sallis, a 2021 point guard out of Omaha, Nebraska, is ranked #19 in the 247Sports Composite and #11 by Rivals. He is a 6’4” 165 lbs who could give Indiana a nice bump of scoring in the backcourt. Several other Big Ten teams, such as Michigan and Wisconsin, are also pursuing Sallis.

Indiana offers Rodney Rice

On Monday, August 31st, Archie Miller offered class of 2022 point guard Rodney Rice a scholarship. Rice is a 6’4” 185 lbs Maryland native attending Dematha Catholic High School, a school from which many great players have come. The 247Sports Composite has him ranked at #70, and Rivals has him at #65. He has 18 offers from schools all over the country, including Louisville, Michigan, Kentucky, and Marquette.

Indiana offers Masai Troutman

The IU coaching staff followed up their busy week by making two more scholarship offers on Monday. The first of these was Masai Troutman, a 6’5″ guard from Maryland. Troutman is just beginning to receive high-major offers; Florida and Georgetown are the only two prominent schools who have also given him an offer.

Indiana offers Justin Taylor

The second offer made on Monday was to #75 overall Justin Taylor, a 6’6″ small forward from Virginia. If you’ve been keeping track at home, Rice, Troutman, and Taylor are all from the Maryland/Virginia area, and there’s a reason for that. Newly appointed assistant coach Kenya Hunter has major recruiting ties to that territory, and it is likely Hunter is the one pulling the strings to try and get these DMV guys to Bloomington.
