Kenya Hunter is the new Indiana Basketball assistant coach

Well, that didn’t take long. Former Hoosier assistant coach Bruiser Flint announced his decision to move on from Indiana to Kentucky just over a ten days ago, and Archie Miller has just hired his replacement: former UCONN assistant Kenya Hunter.

There were murmurs on social media that the Hunter was the man for the assistant spot over the past 24-hours and those rumors turned out to be spot on.

Hunter has been at UCONN for the past three years under Bobby Hurley. Before his days in the Northeast, Hunter was an assistant at Nebraska for five years. He also had stints at Xavier, Georgetown, and Duquesne, and was the manager of basketball operations for North Carolina State University while a young Archie Miller played point guard for the Wildcats.

Those NC State ties brought Hunter to Bloomington. His years of experience coaching for successful basketball programs give him quite an impressive resume and make him an excellent hire for the Hoosiers.

Hunter could very well be an upgrade from Bruiser Flint. He specializes in the development of big men and Indiana is a very frontcourt-dominant team. Hunter may be able to help take the game of Trayce Jackson-Davis up another level, and he could help woo Trey Kaufman to come play under his tutelage.

In what has been a surprisingly bustling week of Indiana basketball news, this Sunday has provided the cherry on top. Archie Miller got himself the right man for the job.
