Indiana Basketball: Devonte Green signs in Greece
A former Indiana Basketball star has a new home overseas.
Devonte Green, Indiana’s leading scorer from last season, has signed his first professional contract with Trikoupis BC, a team in Greece. Trikoupis BC is coming off a superb season, winning the Greek A2 League championship. The club will be competing in the Greek A1 League next season, which is the top league in Greece. This is obviously an exciting team to be a part of for Green, as he gets to help them break new ground in their new league.
The senior finished his final season in Bloomington averaging 10.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Green only shot 36% from three last season but is bound to shoot better as a pro with more shooting and better spacing around him.
Green was undoubtedly one of the most polarizing players in recent memory for the Hoosiers. He is absolutely stunning at his best and damaging to the team at his worst. His brightest moment last season came against Florida State, when he scored 30 points on 10-15 shooting from the floor in a route of the eventual ACC champion. Every team needs scoring, and Green will be able to provide plenty of buckets to his new team in the Mediterranean. There are few players on Earth with Green’s uncanny ability to put the ball in the basket.
Playing for a professional team will help Green grow immensely as a player. His NBA dreams are far from over, but he needs to grow in maturity and have better shot selection to really take his game to the next level. An integral role on a competing professional team with hopefully help him grow in these areas. Keep an eye out for this electric young player, because this is only the beginning of his career.
