Indiana Basketball’s chances for Trey Kaufman are dwindling

Since Khristian Lander committed to Indiana back in spring, all eyes in Bloomington have been on Sellersburg, Indiana’s Trey Kaufman. Kaufman is bound to be a beast at the collegiate level. There are almost no holes in his game: he can shoot it well from three, he can score from the post, he can handle the ball, he can play defense, and he is incredibly athletic. The Hoosiers hitched their wagon to the Kaufman bandwagon quite some time ago, but the class of 2021 forward has been taking his recruitment slowly. Now, Archie Miller may have to defend his prized recruit from other blue-bloods.

For a while, Indiana was the highest-profile name on the list of Kaufman’s suitors. Kentucky scouted a few games but never made a strong push. There were whispers in the recruiting world that Kaufman was biding his time in hopes of receiving other big-time offers. His patience has paid off.

North Carolina recently offered Kaufman, and Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans is now unsure of the Indiana native’s desire to stay in his home state.

“I am becoming less and less sure of as the fall approaches. Indiana should still be seen as the favorite for Trey Kaufman, but the longer things go, the more difficult you have to think it will be for Kaufman to pick the in-state bunch compared to all others.”

It is possible that North Carolina just opened the floodgates for more big-time offers to come in for Kaufman. There is still hope, but things are beginning to turn sour for the Hoosiers in this recruitment.
