A former Indiana Basketball recruit has re-opened his recruitment.

Bryce Hopkins, a four-star recruit in the class of 2021, has re-opened his recruitment after having been previously committed to Louisville since November of 2019. Hopkins, the 33rd overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, was the highest-rated recruit in the Cardinals’ class. The young player cited the ongoing sanctions at Louisville to be the driving force in his decision.

Hopkins held a scholarship offer from Indiana along with other Big Ten teams before his initial commitment. Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois were all heavily involved with the Oak Park, Illinois native’s recruitment.

The Hoosiers have been heavily involved in the recruitment of Aminu Mohammed, Trey Kaufman, and Mason Miller in the class of 2021. As of now, they only have three scholarships available for next year’s class. Of course, this could change if a player decided to transfer or go pro after next season.

It will be interesting to see if Archie Miller tries to woo Hopkins to Indiana again upon hearing this news. Logan Duncomb is the only class of 2021 commitment so far and he is a bonafide center. There is certainly room for a talented wing in next year’s recruiting class.

Hopkins is a 6’7″ small forward/power forward who could give the Hoosiers some nice versatility in the frontcourt. Indiana was to let off the recruitment of one of its current targets, it would be Mason Miller. Miller would provide more shooting and size than Hopkins, but less athleticism and versatility. This is a situation to monitor in the future.
