Wins – Rutgers, Northwestern
Loss – Nebraska, Purdue, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State
The Illini made a surprise run to a bowl game last year, but still just went 6-6. They did pull off a huge upset against previously unbeaten Wisconsin and had a big comeback against Michigan State to pull off the win. But outside of those two wins, they didn’t beat anybody good.
They do have quarterback Brandon Peters coming back and if he can stay healthy they can score a lot of points. Their defense, though, still is not very good and will give up a lot of points. They will probably play in a lot of high scoring games this year, but won’t win many of them. They do get a break by playing Maryland and Rutgers as crossover games and those could be wins.
Illinois is another tough team to predict. They made a bowl last year but outside of beating Wisconsin, they didn’t beat anybody great. We thought they would play Maryland for their 10th game but instead, they get Penn State and we don’t think they have a shot to win that game. Right now we have them at two wins, but five wins wouldn’t shock us.
