Indiana Basketball is set up to have a great 2021 recruiting class

As it stands, the Hoosiers have one commitment in the class of 2021, that being center Logan Duncomb. Duncomb is going to be a nice player who will likely be in Bloomington for four years and make his mark on the program. However, Archie Miller’s work is far from over in the class of 2021.

The prospect most crucial to Miller’s 2021 plans is Sellersburg, Indiana native Trey Kaufman. After months of being criminally underrated, Kaufman is now being properly valued by numerous scouts. He has impressed those who have seen him play within the past few months and his trajectory could go up even higher from here.

Kaufman is undoubtedly the priority for Miller and company, but the Hoosiers’ coaching staff is also hot on the trail of top-10 guard Aminu Mohammed. At this point, scouts and media are unsure about which schools are currently winning Mohammed’s attention, but the good news is that Indiana is one of the schools in which he is most interested. Don’t expect Miller to let off the gas pedal with Mohammed’s recruitment.

Mohammed is a perfect player for Miller’s dream version of the Hoosier roster. He is athletic, can create his own shot, and can defend a variety of players very effectively. The Missouri native would likely blossom if he came to IU and played under the tutelage of Indiana’s staff.

The third piece to the puzzle is forward Mason Miller, son of former NBA player Mike Miller. Miller, like his father, is 6’9” and can stroke the ball from deep. His father was on the Memphis coaching staff last season when Indiana began showing interest, but Miller has since left that position. This gave IU a huge advantage in the young sharpshooter’s recruitment, and, according to Rivals analyst Corey Evans, the Hoosiers and Creighton are currently the frontrunners for his services.

A college basketball roster is always in limbo with the potential of transfers or players declaring for the NBA, but as it stands now, Indiana only has three scholarships to offer. This could potentially change should Trayce Jackson-Davis jump to the NBA after his sophomore season, but we’ll hold out hope that the runner up for Big Ten Freshman of the year will be back for his junior season.

If everything went according to plan for Miller, he’d have an incredible amount of talent and flexibility that he hasn’t yet had as coach of Indiana. Miller talked in his recent press conference about how teams who have been recruiting players for a long time have an advantage since COVID-19 has prevented coaches from watching players in person. Kaufman, Mohammed, and Miller all fit this description for the Hoosiers. Hopefully, we will see a perfect three for three in the class of 2021. If that were to happen, Indiana Basketball would make waves in the NCAA.
