Indiana Football: Hoosiers have big recruiting weekend
By Adam Childs
The Indiana football team pulled in two more recruits to their 2021 class as Tom Allen and company continue their recruiting momentum.
The Hoosiers are still waiting to see if they will get to play football in 2020, but it hasn’t stopped them from getting commitments for their 2021 class. This weekend was no different as Indiana pulled in two more guys to add tho their already budding class.
First came 3-star offensive lineman Joshua Sales, who plays at Brownsburg High School in Indiana.
Sales picked the Hoosiers on Saturday and will continue his football career in the state of Indiana. He had offers from a lot of schools including fellow Big Ten teams Michigan State, Rutgers, Purdue, Illinois, and Maryland.
Sales, according to 247sports, is the 38 ranked offensive tackle in the country and third in the state of Indiana. He is a big body at 6’6″ and 265 pounds. He played mostly left tackle during his Junior year at Brownsburg.
Keeping in-state talent at IU is a big deal for Tom Allen and his coaching staff and beating out Purdue among others has to make the Hoosier faithful happy.
Sales wasn’t the only one to commit to the Hoosiers on Saturday. Later in the day, Indiana picked up defensive back Maurice Freeman when he chose IU.
Freeman, a safety from Virginia, picked the Hoosiers over Illinois, Pitt, and Ole Miss. He is yet another commitment from outside the state of Indiana for Allen and staff. They continue to show that they can get talent from anywhere to come to Bloomington.
Freeman is listed as the 39 overall safety in the 2021 class and 13th in the state of Virginia according to 247sports. Listed at 6’0″ and 195 he has decent size but has great speed.
He helped his school to a 13-2 record and state runner-up finish in the state of Virginia during the 2019 season.
Freeman should come in and help an improving defense. One led by Taiwan Mullens who shined during his freshman year in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers continue to impress on the recruiting trail and this weekend was just another example of that. Allen is doing a great job and the Hoosiers are continuing to show that they could become a team to pay attention to in the Big Ten.
