1. Utah

This would only happen if the Big Ten was trying to get cute. But judging by what they have done in the past I wouldn’t put it past them.

There is absolutely zero reasons to add Utah except for trying to expand their geographical reach. Again just like they did when they added Rutgers, but at least they were in a very good market. Utah doesn’t have that.

The Utes have been better in football but they aren’t a power and they have not been very good at basketball as of late either.

Before joining the PAC 12 in 2011 they were considered a mid-major program and while that doesn’t mean they can’t be good, it is tough for a school to make that jump. Many have tried but they struggle to stay up consistently.

Then again Rutgers has played like a mid-major program for a while now, so why not add another one.

But in all seriousness, there would be no gain for the Big Ten to add Utah. if they really wanted to make their reach out west, they would be better off going after Arizona or even Colorado (who they shouldn’t). But reaching out west gets complicated because of the time zones and can just make everything a mess.

The Big Ten could expand and it might not be the worst thing, but they should avoid the schools we have mentioned. There is little to gain from going after them. If they got any of these schools it would almost like they were just expanding for the sake of expanding and not really having a plan.
