2. Colorado

When the big round of realignment happened in 2011 Colorado was desperate to leave the Big 12. Schools were unhappy with Texas and wanted out. The Buffaloes were rumored to have some interest in the Big Ten but ended up in the PAC 12 instead.

Geographically it makes sense for Colorado to be part of the PAC 12, but I am sure they probably would have loved have been in the Big Ten. I have no facts to back this up, but my feeling is if the Big Ten ever went after Colorado they would jump ship and come over.

This would expand the reach of the conference out west but would make a heck of a trip for schools like Maryland and Rutgers. Plus the conference would now span three time zones and that is probably not a good idea.

Athletically there is not anything not to like about the Buffaloes. They aren’t great in anything but they would bring competitive teams and would jump ahead of a bunch of Big Ten schools as far as football goes.

Michigan would probably vote this down anyway as they wouldn’t want to be constantly reminded of this.
