Indiana basketball: Did Big Ten get All-Decade team right?

While there were questions on where Ferrell and Oladipo were placed on the All-Decade team at least they made the team. For one Hoosier it was a mystery on why he was left off the list.

That player was none other than Cody Zeller.

Hoosier fans, among others, were wondering if Cody Zeller should have made one of the teams. What makes it worse for the IU faithful is not one but two Purdue players made the third team. Both JaJuan Johnson and Caleb Swanigan made it and Zeller did not.

The other questionable inclusion over Zeller was Jordan Murphy from Minnesota. Murphy along with the two Boilermakers were very good players and deserving, but were they better than Zeller?

Zeller was the leader on the Hoosier team that made back-to-back Sweet 16’s, won a Big Ten title and was ranked as high as fourth in the country.

In two years at IU, Zeller averaged 16.3 points per game while shooting nearly 60% from the field. He was a force down low grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game and averaging just under two blocks a game.

Murphy, for example, did play four years but average less points and blocks per game than Zeller. He did have more rebounds, but he also didn’t lead the Golden Gophers to any titles as Zeller did.

The Boilermaker duo had similar numbers and did lead the Boilermakers to the top of the Big Ten, but Zeller was just as good.

Zeller was just as good if not better than those three guys and should have absolutely made at least the third team.

The Hoosiers were represented, but many feel they were slighted. Some of that might be from fandom, and some might be warranted. Either way, it was great to see Ferrell and Oladipo be rewarded for their great careers. It just would have been nice for Zeller to join them.
