Indiana Basketball: Get to know new target AJ Casey
Chicago native AJ Casey is one player on whom Indiana Basketball has set its sights.
AJ Casey is a 6’8” 200 lbs power forward who received a scholarship offer from Indiana on June 19th. He is an elite prospect in the class of 2022, ranking 24th in the nation per the 247 Sports Composite.
Casey played his freshman season at Simeon High School in Chicago but is transferring to Tinsley High School for the rest of his pre-college career. Simeon has produced several NBA standouts, with Derrick Rose and Jabari Parker being two of the more recent star exports. Casey also plays AAU ball with Meanstreets and is AAU teammates with long time IU target Jalen Washington.
Casey would aptly fill the void left by the departure of Trayce Jackson-Davis, whenever that may be. He is a lanky athlete who runs the court like a gazelle and can dunk the ball with ease. He excels at running in transition on offense and scoring off of easy opportunities created by his athleticism and hustle.
Although he doesn’t have much of an outside game at this point, Casey has the body type and athleticism to eventually have an inside-out offensive skill set even as a big man. His potential is off the charts.
One area where Casey projects to be dominant is rebounding. He has good instincts and timing and an incredible second jump which allows him to recover faster from mistimed rebound attempts.
You can only tell so much from a freshman prospect, but AJ Casey is an impressive young player who would look fantastic in an Indiana jersey one day.
