Indiana Basketball: Analyzing recruits, Trey Kaufman
Trey Kaufman out of Sellersburg, Indiana is an extremely talented player. In his Junior season at Silver Creek High School, Kaufman was awarded the Indiana Gatorade player of the year award. He averaged 25.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals through 27 games. Capable of playing the four or the five, Kaufman scores buckets in droves using his pinpoint accuracy from deep, and his collection of post moves once he gets down low.
The 6’8″ forward has excellent touch as he is able to hit floaters and a multitude of other layups in traffic. He thrives playing at the free-throw line as he is able to take advantage of mismatches or he can dish out to an open teammate as soon as he doubled.
Kaufman also has the chops to be an excellent defensive player as he has shown flashes of good timing and leaping ability. These assets will be highlighted when Kaufman is able to hold his own in the B1G. He also has a good eye for rebounds as he grabbed upwards of nine rebounds in each of his past two seasons.
Kaufman has been on the High-Major radar for quite some time as he received offers as a young sophomore. Currently, Indiana, Purdue, Virginia, Louisville, and Xavier are at the top of Kaufman’s list.
Many people in the know have said that Indiana is the highest on his list pending an offer from Kentucky or North Carolina. Recently, there has been a flurry of crystal ball predictions for Kaufman to land at Indiana. Mike Pegram, 247’s Indiana expert, is one of the people predicting he’ll being wearing candy stripes. I expect Kaufman will be a Hoosier sooner rather than later.
