The Indiana basketball team is looking to make their first NCAA Tournament in four years, but might have to do most of the season without students in the stands.

The Hoosiers are looking to take the next step on the basketball court this year, but with the recently released schedule for students on campus, they could be playing without the rabid fanbase in the stands.

The schedule will have students home from before Thanksgiving until early February.

Of course, if any fans will be able to attend games is still up in the air, but with things starting to open it looked like it could be a possibility come basketball season. But with this schedule for students, it would appear that there will be very few if any at Assembly Hall this year.

Indiana Basketball: Season without students?

The basketball regular-season starts at the beginning of November and ends at the beginning of March. Students will be there for the first couple of weeks and the last month. But in between, they miss about two and a half months of the season.

When watching basketball games on tv, you can always tell when it is fall break because the students aren’t in the stands. It is different and it takes away from the home-court advantage.

Now think about this for almost three-fourths of the season. If they allow any fans into games this is a big deal. The Hoosier crowd will still be great, but let’s be honest student fans are the best and without them, it just isn’t the same.

Hoosier basketball games is why a lot of students want to be on campus. Some might even choose to go to IU because of the atmosphere at the basketball games. Take that away from them and you are stripping part of the college experience away.

Obviously, not all students come to IU to watch sports, but the ones that do make up a huge advantage for the Hoosiers.

This year of college sports was always going to be different due to the circumstances, but this is just another reminder of how different it will really be. No students at IU basketball games will just seem wrong.

Hopefully, there will be fans at basketball games this year, but everyone including the players will miss the students.
