The Indiana basketball team is still looking to fill out their scholarships for the 2020 season, so could they look at the newest big-name transfer?

Indiana lost another scholarship player last week when Justin Smith entered his name into the transfer portal. With his and Damezi Anderson‘s departure it leaves the Hoosiers with two scholarships to fill for 2020.

It hasn’t been all bad news for the Hoosiers as Khristian Lander made it official and reclassified to the 2020 class and will be in Bloomington next year. Indiana has the pieces in place to be a contender in the Big Ten but still could use some more help.

We have talked a lot about how they will fill those spots, whether it be the transfer route or find a diamond in the rough in the high school 2020 class. It is getting late to find a high school graduate to fill that spot, so the transfer route may be the way to go.

We have talked about some Big Ten transfers that the Hoosiers could have possibly reached out but they never did. We also explored the option of Indiana chasing Mac McClung, a transfer from Georgetown. But he recently listed his top eight and the Hoosiers were not part of it. To be honest they probably didn’t even reach out.

But late Monday night another big-time name hit the transfer portal and again it is one that the Hoosiers should at least reach out to. Yes the Hoosiers could use a full-fledged center, but they also need shooting.

The Hoosiers are bringing in some shooters in Lander and Anthony Leal, but they have yet to step foot on a college basketball court and they need to prove themselves.

So the Hoosiers should go after the latest transfer and bring some experience to the position and in turn, bring in some shooting. That transfer is LJ Figueroa from St. John’s.
