NBA Comparison: Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford had a career Devonte Green would envy. A highlight-magnet with a sick handle, excellent shot-creating skills, and a beloved teammate. Crawford made a career off of playing his own game of pickup basketball on offense while barely even trying on defense. When Crawford had to be one of the best players on his team like he was with the Knicks, it didn’t work well. Crawford was most effective as a bench spark plug; you can sacrifice some defense if he’s just going to cook lesser defenders off the opposing team’s bench.

While I doubt it will happen, Green could do this same thing. Archie Miller even tried it a bit last season at Indiana. A green-light guy off the bench is valuable in the NBA, but Green needs to learn that not every shot has to be a hard shot. No NBA coach would let him shoot the shots he did at Indiana.

Picture-Perfect Scenario

Green goes undrafted but he is able to sign with a Summer League team. In Summer League, Green can’t miss. He has several 20+ point games and hits a bunch of impressive, tough shots. An NBA team signs him to a two-way contract and he tries to make a career as a reliable scorer off the bench.
