The Indiana baseball team’s season was cut short, but Grant Richardson was still honored for his great partial season.

The Hoosiers may have lost more of their baseball season but that didn’t keep Grant Richardson from making the most of that time. Richardson was outstanding for Indiana and for his great partial season he was named third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Richardson was the star on a very young team this year and helped lead the Hoosiers to wins against ranked teams in LSU, East Carolina, and South Alabama.

A year after winning the regular-season Big Ten title and making it to a regional, the Hoosiers brought back a very young team and tough early-season schedule. But head coach Jeff Mercer had his team playing well and beat LSU and East Carolina on the road and played toe-to-toe with a very good Ole Miss team.

For as well as the Hoosiers started off their season, Richardson was playing even better. He led the team with a .424 batting average. He also had five home runs and 17 rbi’s. He was the unquestioned leader of the Hoosiers offense.

Richardson was just a sophomore and Mercer and the Hoosier faithful have to be excited about the growth by him and what he will bring back his Junior year.

While there are still question marks about how next year will play out, the Hoosiers will bring a great core group of players back and they should be right back ready to compete in the Big Ten.

Richardson is just starting to touch on his potential and between him and Elijah Dunham, they could make up one of the top duos in college baseball next year.
