Indiana Basketball: Hoosiers should go after Georgetown transfer
By Adam Childs
The Indiana basketball is still looking to fill one scholarship spot and a big-time name just hit the transfer portal and the Hoosiers should go after him.
We have been talking the past couple of weeks about Big Ten transfers and how they would fit with the Hoosiers. Some of them have not been very realistic or they have come from Purdue and Indiana hate that idea.
But the fact remains that the Hoosiers still have one scholarship open for next year. That number would go up to two if Khristian Lander ends up not reclassifying.
It is still a mystery of it the Hoosiers will look to bring in another recruit or go after a transfer. If they have decided they are looking at transfers, they should definitely make a call to Mac McClung from Georgetown.
McClung will be a Junior next year and would have to sit out a year unless he is granted a waiver that he will most likely apply for. He was a beast for the Hoyas last year as a sophomore and had originally declared for the NBA draft before withdrawing his name and somewhat surprisingly putting his name in the transfer portal.
McClung averaged 15.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last year. He is a great shooter and can finish at the rim. He is a high flying player that will be highly sought after right now. It is already reported that he has heard from 12 teams. Indiana was not one of them at the time, but they need to be.
The Hoosiers have needed a scorer to compliment Trayce Jackson-Davis and McClung would be that guy. They also need to bring in guys that can shoot, an Achilles heel for Indiana the last two years.
There are some rumors out there tying him to Tennessee, but nothing is official yet and until it is this is definitely a guy Archie Miller needs to pursue. If he could play next year, he could be a gamechanger for the Hoosiers.
It will probably be tough to get him to Bloomington, but the Hoosiers have a lot to seel the kid. He would be loved by the fans and seems to have a similar game to beloved alum Victor Oladipo. He would also have a very good young team to play with.
The Hoosiers have a lot to offer, they just need to make the call and see if they can make it happen.
