Indiana Basketball: Possible 2020 starting lineups – Youth
By Adam Childs
The Indiana basketball team should have a lot of options for the 2020-21 season. We take a look at possible combinations, next up is a youthful lineup.
The Hoosiers return a strong nucleus for next year’s team, plus they are bringing in a very good recruiting class. They are bringing in top talent in Trey Galloway, Anthony Leal, and Jordan Geronimo. They still are waiting to see if Khristian Lander will join them this year, but either way, they should have good young talent in Bloomington.
With the returners and influx of young talent, Archie Miller could go a lot of different ways with his starting lineup. We will explore his different possibilities, but today we look at what a very youthful lineup would like and if Khristian Lander reclassifies.
Youthful Lineup
PG – Khristian Lander
SG – Anthony Leal
SF – Trey Galloway
SF – Jordan Geronimo
PF – Trayce Jackson-Davis
We already looked at what an experienced lineup would look like and it could be very effective, but how much fun would it be to see this lineup on the court. It has been a while since the Hoosiers have had good enough freshmen to put four of them in the same lineup, but if Lander comes this year they could very well run with this group.
Jackson-Davis will be the mainstay in any lineup so he is an obvious choice and while he is just a sophomore he did great his first year. He still needs to develop some more weapons, but he the centerpiece for the Hoosiers.
Lander will come in with a ton of hype as he is the top point guard according to 247sports in the 2021 class and would rank very highly in the 2020 class. He is the point guard of the future for the Hoosiers, and could very well be the starter regardless of the lineup this year. Can he handle the pressure of all the talk about his game? If he can the Hoosiers will be dangerous.
Leal was Mr. Basketball for the state of Indiana and is a great shooter. He is a deep threat, but also one that can get to the rim and finish. The Hoosiers have struggled to hit shots from deep the last two years and Leal will be looked upon to change that.
Galloway is another player who can fill it up. He is more athletic than Leal and is a great finisher at the rim. Combined they could make a very lethal duo of shooters for the Hoosiers. They combined would be a matchup nightmare for opposing teams, especially with Lander running point.
Geronimo can stretch defenses out with his ability to knock down outside shots. He isn’t a great ballhandler but again can finish at the rim. He is more comfortable rim running, but with this lineup, he could have someone slower than him and can take advantage.
This is a lineup the obviously depends on Lander reclassifying, but if he does this would be a fun one to watch. It will be interesting to see if Archie Miller does decide to go young and a quick lineup. They could possibly be overmatched against very experienced teams, but they can hold their own. This is a testament to how well Miller has recruited that a lineup like this would even be possible. The next few years could be very fun in Bloomington.
