Indiana Basketball: Recruiting class 2020 break down: Jordan Geronimo
By Zach Breton
What Will Jordan Geronimo bring to IU?
Jordan Geronimo is a hyper-athletic, aggressive scorer who has a knack for making big defensive plays. He’s at his best in transition when he can use his lanky, but coordinated, body to outmaneuver defenders to score in the paint.
He’s comfortable as a spot-up shooter and will be able to help shore up Indiana’s lack of shooting. I think he’ll make an excellent addition to the Hoosiers roster and he will be seeing significant playing time his freshman year. I would not be surprised to see Geronimo make the leap to the NBA after two or three seasons sporting the cream and crimson.
One thing Geronimo struggles with is ball-handling and his hands. Geronimo very rarely uses his handles to get around his man and most of his drives consist of straight-line runs to the basket.
Player comparison: OG Anunoby
A player that has a similar game to Jordan Geronimo in the NBA is OG Anunoby. Anunoby played two years at Indiana before heading to the NBA where he has played for the reigning champion Raptors.
In the NBA, Anunoby has been lauded for his capabilities as a “3 and D” player. He has provided the Raptors a steady presence on the wing using a combination of athleticism, defensive prowess, and shooting ability.
These traits are very similar to those that Archie Miller and staff hope that Geronimo will bring to the team. In fact, 247 analyst Corey Evans mentioned how he seems to have some OG Anunoby-like qualities in Geronimo’s game.
Jordan Geronimo was a great recruit for Archie Miller to grab early in the year. By the end of Geronimo’s Indiana career, Miller will be thanking his lucky stars. I promise you that.
