The Hoosiers came into the annual Old Oaken Bucket game looking for their eighth win of the year and were looking to make a strong case for a bowl in the state of Florida for the first time ever.

On a cold and rainy day in West Lafayette, it looked like the Hoosiers were well on their way to an easy victory. Indiana led 21-10 going into the half and extended that lead to 28-10 when Peyton Ramsey hit Whop Philyor for a touchdown with 3:30 left in the third quarter.

It looked like the Hoosiers were going to coast and bring back the Oaken Bucket to Bloomington, but the Boilermakers had other plans. They came right back down to score before the end of the third to cut the lead to 28-17.

They stopped the Hoosiers and went down and scored another touchdown but missed the two-point conversion and suddenly it was a 28-23 ballgame. The Hoosiers did go down and kick a field goal, but the Boilermakers would tie the game on a David Bell touchdown catch from Aidan O’Connell.

Purdue would actually have one last chance to win the game in regulation but stalled at the Hoosiers 40 and the game would head to overtime.

The Hoosiers would strike first in overtime when Nick Westbrook caught a touchdown pass to put Indiana up 38-31. Purdue would tie the game on a touchdown of their own, but not after a crazy bounce helped them get a first down at the five-yard line.

In the second overtime, the Hoosiers held Purdue to a field goal. That set up a chance for Indiana to win and that is exactly what they did when Peyton Ramsey plunged in from the one-yard line on a quarterback sneak to seal the game.

It was an ugly game, but one that the Hoosiers were able to win and bring back the Oaken Bucket. It was much closer than it needed to be, but no one from Indiana was complaining.

The win helped Indiana secure a bowl in Florida and a winning record in the Big Ten.
