4. 1953 National Championship Team
Again before most of our time, the 1953 Championship team brought a second title back to Bloomington.
Going 23-3 on the season, Branch McCracken put himself in college basketball history as he secured his second title for the Hoosiers and also beat one of the all-time great coaches in the National Championship game, for the second time.
Kansas was coming off of winning the National Championship the year before and was, again, a favorite to win that year.
It was a 30-point outing by Don Schlundt that led Indiana to victory en route to being named a second-team All-American.
The Hoosiers also had Bobby Leonard on the roster who was a third-team All-American that year and a second-team All-American the next.
While most fans won’t remember this team, it was a big win for the program after a 10 year stretch of poor play in Bloomington.
