Indiana Basketball: Grading the 2019-20 season

If you were going to grade out players individually, Trayce Jackson-Davis would lead the way and would deserve an A. He, at times, carried this team both scoring and on the boards, but at times it seemed like the Hoosiers didn’t get him enough touches.
While Jackson-Davis was a bright spot the team as a whole was an enigma at best this year. They had stretches where they looked like they could play with anyone in the country, but they also went through an alarming number of scoring droughts.
The Hoosiers offense only put together a few games where they looked good on offense during the whole game. Every team in the country goes through droughts and looks bad on the offensive side, but Indiana seemed to do it more often than any other team. Not only would they go through droughts, but they also looked completely lost at times and the turnovers would come in droves.
Devonte Green looked at times like an A+ offensive player, but at other times would completely disappear. Race Thompson became an option late and De’Ron Davis even had some very good moments this year. Al Durham, Rob Phinisee, and Justin Smith were in the same boat, while Joey Brunk helped in a couple of games, but was mostly disappointing after transferring over from Butler.
Overall this team seemed to lack an identity on offense. They didn’t shoot well consistently from the outside and missed a ton of layups. They had their flashes of great play that kept the Hoosier faithful optimistic, but overall this team didn’t live up to the potential. They did just enough to get into the C range, but not by much. They have a lot of work to do going into next year.
