Indiana Basketball: Hoosiers overcome slow start to rout Nebraska
The Indiana basketball program got a much-needed win against Nebraska to open up Big Ten Tournament play on the right note.
Indiana basketball came out of the gates slow but eventually turned on the jets and picked up a much-needed win against Nebraska, 89-64.
The Hoosiers played a gritty end to the first half finishing on a 16-1 run, with the spark being Devonté Green, who finished the game with 12 points.
The Hoosiers got big and dominated the paint with Trayce Jackson-Davis, Justin Smith, Race Thompson, Joey Brunk, and De’Ron Davis. Trayce recorded a double-double scoring 11 points and adding a staggering 17 rebounds, which was a career-high. Smith added 12 points and six rebounds.
The Hoosiers opened the second half strong with a 23-11 run but succumbed the 21 point lead with Nebraska cutting it to nine with eight minutes to go in the second half. It never got closer than that.
Overall this was a team effort with underclassmen as Armaan Franklin had a team-high 13 points and added eight rebounds.
Nebraska even provided some comedic relief from the game when football players Noah Vedral and Brant Banks came into the game and had the fans jumping on their feet.
Nebraska was led by Kevin Cross who had a game-high 23 points.
With this win, it appears that Indiana will finally be dancing for the first time in four seasons. The Hoosiers will face off against Penn State tomorrow night.
