The Indiana baseball team will head down to East Carolina for three games in the Keith LeClair Classic on February 28-29 and March 1.
The Hoosiers will make their third straight weekend road trip when they head to East Carolina University for the Keith LeClair Classic this weekend. Indiana is coming off trips to LSU and South Alabama in which they compiled a 4-2 record including a three-game sweep of their opponents last weekend.
Indiana will take on two ranked opponents this weekend in East Carolina and SEC power Ole Miss. They will also take on a very good High Point team. It will be another tough weekend for the Hoosiers, but Indiana hasn’t shied away from the good teams yet and they won’t start this weekend.
The Hoosiers lost two of three to LSU in the first weekend, but after losing the first two games they showed grit by picking up a win in the finale. Last weekend the Hoosiers took down UT Martin before upsetting 30th ranked South Alabama and then winning easily against Sienna.
Indiana will get things started on Friday at 4:30 pm when they take on host East Carolina. The Pirates are currently ranked 17th in the country and made a super-regional last year.
Saturday the Hoosiers take on High Point at 12 pm, before finishing the weekend on Sunday with their game against 13th ranked Ole Miss at 10 am. The Rebels also made a super-regional last year and play in one of the best college baseball conferences in the country, the SEC.
The Hoosiers are led at the plate by Elijah Dunham who is batting .476 on the year after a great weekend in Alabama. Grant Richardson is also on a tear hitting .389 which helped him win co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors after their trip to LSU.
Braydon Tucker has been the star on the mound for the Hoosiers going 2-0 with 0.86 ERA in his two starts.
The Hoosiers had their game Wednesday against Butler canceled due to weather and will be looking to keep the momentum going from last weekend’s three wins. If the Hoosiers can come back with two or three wins after the weekend they could be looking at a possible top 25 ranking. Either way, Jeff Mercer’s club will be ready come Big Ten conference play due to the tough competition they are playing to start the season.
