The Indiana basketball program failed to keep its momentum going as it was an ugly loss to the Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday.

It was a disappointing night for Indiana basketball as all of the momentum it had from the prior week was taken away with an ugly performance in a 57-49 loss to the Purdue Boilermakers.

Toughness, better shooting, and contributions from the entire team had helped the Hoosiers climb firmly in the NCAA Tournament just a week ago, but on Thursday, none of that traveled to West Lafayette.

The Hoosiers, who shot just 25.9 percent on the night, had just two more field goals (15) than turnovers (13), most of them unforced.

Indiana was down by as much as 16 at one point early in the second half, but Purdue, who shot just 37.5 percent, wasn’t much better on offense either. The Boilermakers made up for their poor shooting, however, by winning the rebounding matchup and controlling the paint. Overall, Purdue finished with 42 points in the paint.

Trevion Williams got anything he wanted inside against the Indiana big men as he finished with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds on the night, compared to just 10 points and 11 rebounds from Indiana’s starting frontcourt.

Devonte Green led the Hoosiers with 11 points while Justin Smith added eight.

Indiana stays on the road and heads to Illinois on Sunday, looking to get another quality win in Big Ten play.
