Indiana Basketball: 3 improvements for Archie Miller next season
There’s a lot of basketball left to be played this season, but it’s already clear there are improvements to be made for Archie Miller’s critical fourth season next year.
Throughout Archie Miller’s tenure, Indiana basketball has made small jumps from year to year. He followed up his 16-15 first season as Indiana’s head coach with a 19-15 campaign and an NIT appearance a season ago. This season, Indiana is once again firmly on the bubble, though they boast several impressive wins over ranked teams.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi currently has the Hoosier’s listed as one of the last four teams in the tournament as a result of the brutal recent stretch of losses the Hoosiers have gone through, but because of the four ranked wins they have on the year.
Whether Indiana makes the NCAA tournament this season remains to be seen, although it’s pretty clear that’s the only overarching goal for the rest of the season for this team.
After starting 12-1, including a win over Florida State (who is currently 8th in the AP Poll) it’s a bit disappointing for Indiana to be sitting in roughly the same position as a year ago.
If Indiana wants to establish itself as a true Big Ten and national championship contender going forward, there are several things Archie Miller and company are going to have to make serious improvements on.
Schematically Miller has been resistant to change, but if he wants to bring success to a program that’s dying to get back to national relevance, he may have to make some changes even he is uncomfortable with it.
