Indiana Basketball: JUCO guard to keep an eye on for 2020 class
By Alec Lasley
Archie Miller is still looking to add to the 2020 class for Indiana basketball, and it could come from one JUCO player.
With more and more prospects in the 2020 class coming off of the board as we get closer to the end of the college basketball season, the Indiana basketball program is still looking to add to its class, and Archie Miller is looking everywhere for that right addition.
Right now, Indiana has a three-man class of Jordan Geronimo, Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway, but Miller is still hard on the recruiting trail for 2020.
Two prospects who are high on Indiana’s recruiting board are Khristian Lander and Carter Whitt. Both are in the 2021 class but have been open about a possible reclassification to 2020. While neither of them have confirmed that they will make the jump, it remains a possible option for Indiana.
Another route the Hoosiers may go is through the junior college ranks. One name that popped up on Indiana’s radar is Rudi Williams. The 6-foot-3 guard currently plays for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and is putting together a terrific season. Williams is averaging 20.3 points per game on 51.1 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three. He also averages 9.1 assists and 6.9 rebounds per game.
With ball handling being a major point of emphasis for Indiana this season and with the 2020 recruiting class, Williams could fill that role perfectly. Not only can he create opportunities for himself, he also has six games with 10+ assists and one or less turnovers.
So far, Washington State, New Mexico State, Boise State and Northern Kentucky have all extended offers to Williams, but Indiana, Ole Miss and Pitt have expressed interest.
Williams recently spoke to 247Sports about his recruitment and how he would describe his style of play.
"“I’m a dual-threat point guard that can get my teammates involved and make guys around me better or I can go get buckets,” he said. “I’m capable of getting a double double every time I step on the floor and I’m a winner most importantly.”"
Right now, Indiana has one open scholarship for the 2020-21 season, but that doesn’t account for any possible transfers, which in this age of college basketball is very likely.
Indiana’s 2020 class ranks No. 28 in the country and No. 5 in the Big Ten.
