Indiana Basketball: Jackson-Davis’ career game lifts Hoosiers to road win
By Alec Lasley
Indiana basketball picked up a much-needed road victory on Wednesday night against Minnesota led by a career night from Trayce Jackson-Davis.
After an uninspired performance last time out for Indiana basketball, the Hoosiers bounced back with a much better all-around performance in a 68-56 win over Minnesota, just their second Big Ten road win of the season.
Against Michigan, Trayce Jackson-Davis took a season low three shots and was taken out of the game early. On Wednesday, however, that wasn’t the case. Archie Miller made it known that Jackson-Davis needed to be more involved in the offense before the game, and that he was.
The freshman big scored 10 of the first 21 points for the Hoosiers, on his way to a new career-high, finishing with 27 points and 16 rebounds.
During the course of the past month, it was rebounding that hurt the Hoosiers, and despite losing the rebound battle for most of the game, it was both Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson who came up with the ball at key moments all throughout the game, helping the Hoosiers come out with a 39-38 advantage.
Thompson continues to improve and show his value for Archie Miller as he provided Indiana with a huge lift off of the bench in his homecoming game. The Minnesota native finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Daniel Oturu came into the game for Minnesota averaging 19.9 points per game, but was held to just 11 points on 5-of-15 from the field, thanks to the terrific defense from the duo of Jackson-Davis and Thompson.
Devonte Green chipped in 11 points for Indiana off of the bench as well.
The Hoosiers now turn their attention to Sunday when they welcome in No. 9 Penn State to Assembly Hall. With a win, Indiana would become a near lock in the NCAA Tournament.
