The Indiana football program is looking to build on one of the best seasons in program history and are ranked just outside of the top 25 in one ESPN ranking.

While it is still the college football ‘offseason’ and spring practice is still over a month away, expectations are starting to be set for the 2020 season, and the Indiana football program is entering uncharted territory.

2019 was a year of many ‘firsts’ and brought some great memories, but now it’s time to build on the great season and continue to take the program to the next step. In what has already been a busy offseason, the Hoosiers saw three players enter their names in the transfer portal, Peyton Ramsey, Coy Cronk, and Ronnie Walker. Despite that, however, the Hoosiers are set up perfectly to meet or exceed their win total from last year with all of the talent returning.

With the Indiana football program spending time in the top-25 last season, the expectation is that it will be more of a norm in the future, starting with this upcoming year. According to ESPN’s Bill Connelly, his SP+ rankings have the Hoosiers just a bit outside of the top 25 to enter the 2020 season, ranked No. 27.

A more analytical rankings system, Connelly bases it off of three things: returning talent, recent recruiting classes and program’s recent history.

The Big Ten as a whole has four teams in the top 25 with Ohio State (2), Penn State (5), Wisconsin (9), and Michigan (16) as the quartet ahead of the Hoosiers. OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin all play host to Indiana next year, while Indiana faces off against Penn State in Bloomington.

As it stands currently, Indiana is projected to have the greatest chance of reaching seven or eight wins in 2020.
