The Indiana football program got its 2021 recruiting class kicked off in a huge way on Tuesday afternoon from a top in-state prospect.
In just a little less than 24 hours, the Indiana football has now received two commitments from big time prospects. On Monday afternoon, it was a 2020 prospect Jalen Mayala who committed to the Hoosiers, but on Tuesday, Tom Allen got great news about his 2021 class.
One of the top ranked prospects in the state of Indiana, Rodney McGraw, announced his commitment to the Hoosiers, being the first commit for Tom Allen in 2021. McGraw is ranked No. 341 overall in the 2021 class and the No. 6 ranked prospect in Indiana.
McGraw is one of the more talented edge rushers in the class and will now be the face of the Indiana pass rush for the future. He chose the Hoosiers over the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Purdue.
One of the multiple prospects on campus over the weekend for Indiana’s junior day, the feel of the IU campus and Indiana program was too much to turn down.
As a junior this past season, McGraw put up 73 tackles with 21.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks and three forced fumbles.
At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, McGraw is as athletic as defensive ends come. Not only does he have the quickness to get around the edge, but also the height to disrupt the quarterbacks vision, and strength to power through offensive linemen.
Just how athletic is McGraw? He is also the starting center for the Elkhart Central high school basketball team.
With McGraw’s commitment, Tom Allen and Indiana continue to be a force on the recruiting trail, securing the third top-350 recruit over the last few years (Sampson James in 2019 and Rashawn Williams in 2020).
With nearly 50 scholarship offers out over the past week for the 2021 and 2022 classes, look for some other high priority targets to follow suit.
