The Indiana football quarterback entered his name in the transfer portal on Monday afternoon after leading IU to a bowl game in 2019.

After what was a record-breaking 2019 season for the Indiana football program, it was announced on Monday that quarterback Peyton Ramsey would enter his name into the transfer portal.

Ramsey, who started every game in 2018, was benched ahead of the season for redshirt freshman Michael Penix. After playing sparingly throughout the first few games, Ramsey became a normal appearance halfway through the season with Penix suffering multiple different injuries that would knock him out of the game.

Ultimately, Ramsey was named the starter for the rest of the season following a season-ending injury for Penix in the Northwestern game. Ramsey finished off the season in stride, helping the Hoosiers to a bowl game, their first eight-win season since 1993, and first time back in the AP Top-25 since 1994.

The main reason behind the success of the season, Ramsey threw for 2,454 yards and 13 touchdowns to just five interceptions. Ramsey will complete his degree and will be eligible to play immediately as a graduate transfer. Although his name in the transfer portal, Ramsey still remains eligible to return to Indiana if he chooses.

If Ramsey does indeed go elsewhere, he will finish his career with 6,581 yards, 56 total touchdowns, and 23 interceptions.

For Penix, health remains the main issue for him. Despite his skillset, the freshman needs to come into next year much stronger in order to compete in the Big Ten. In six games, Penix threw for 1,394 yards, 10 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

The presumed backup now goes to Jack Tuttle, the Utah Transfer who saw limited action this past season.
