The Indiana football program received great news on Monday as it added another member to the 2020 recruiting class.

On a weekend in which the Indiana football program officially welcomed in the hirings of Kevin Wright and Jason Jones to the staff with their introductory press conference, it was also a weekend that brought in multiple top targets for visits.

Coming off of a week when Tom Allen and the rest of the staff dished out nearly 40 scholarship offers over the course of 24 hours, most were 2021 and 2022 targets. The Hoosiers, however, received some great news regarding their 2020 class on Monday.

Fresh off of an official visit to Indiana this weekend, Georgia native Jalen Mayala announced his commitment to Tom Allen and Indiana over the likes of UCLA, Purdue, Illinois, and others.

The three-star prospect wasn’t on Indiana’s recruiting board until recently, as the Hoosiers got involved in Mayala’s recruitment very late. That wasn’t a problem though as they made it known that Mayala was a priority to round up the 2020 class.

Mayala is a defensive end/linebacker who can play either position with his athleticism and skill set. With his ability to play multiple positions in different schemes, it continues to blend with Allen’s vision for the Indiana defense which is depth, speed, and versatility.

With the Hoosiers missing a pass rusher coming off of the edge in the 2020 class, Mayala was a perfect fit for the class.

Indiana now has 19 members in its 2020 recruiting class and is ranked No. 48  in the 247Sports 2020 class rankings.
